Along the road through Annunziata climbing up to the village of La Morra, in the heart of Barolo-growing country in the province of Cuneo, lies the Erbaluna farm. Today it is run by Andrea and Severino Oberto, carrying on a family tradition which has its roots in the last century. Ever since the outset their main concern has been the vines and wine, as visitors understand immediately when they see the steel vats - a clear sign of modern techniques where required, the old bottles carefully preserved in silent, dark surroundings, the vaulted brick cellars and the wooden casks where the Barolo is slowly developing.

In keeping with the classic Piedmontese tradition, the Oberto brothers, helped by their father, Sisto, only make red wines, with the Vigna Rocche Barolo cru taking pride of place in a range which accurately ref1ects the features of the territory. During the last few, years farm holiday accommodation has been provided in the family's old house above the cellars: five comfortable rooms, tastefully furnished with original pieces from the turn of the century.
