In the year 1998 Umberto and Bernardo Valle, agricultural experts and devoted winemakers bought a small wine estate half-way between Scansano and Istia d'Ombrone.
Situated in the southern part of the hills of the "Maremma" in Tuscany, at an altitude of about 70 m above sealevel, to the south their estate faces the river "Trasubie" and to the northwest it is protected from the cold winds by an oak forest.
The vineyards all have southern exposure and have a total surface of 11 ha, 5 ha are productive and 6 ha will become so by the year 2003.
The main cultivar is "Sangiovese", Tuscany's wine grape "per eccellenza", while other autochton cultivars and "Merlot" grapes are used to blend the different wines of "Valle" estate.

The vine rows are run north-south in direction of the hill's slope. The vines are pruned to form a "Cordon Royat". There are 4.500 to 5.000 plants per hectar depending on the type of soil. The quatity of grapes is 1,5 kg per plant. All vineyards and the other crops are cultivated according to organic farming.
The grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in oak casks with a capacity of 500 litres for the wines that are kept to age for a longer period, whereas 225 litre barriques are used for the younger wines.
Bernardo is responsible for the vineyards, Umberto takes care of the wine cellar. Enologist Fabrizio Tomas
is their tecnical advisor..
