It was neither a utopian ideal nor a yearning for the impossible that led several small farming concerns specialized in wine production, each unbeknownst to the others, to start projects some years ago aimed at harmoniously bringing together production and the environment by using biological growing methods.
What they had in common was an awareness that in planning for the future they had to live by moderation in the present and in their daily contact with their surroundings. So it was easy for them to get along when they did meet up; so easy, in fact, that they decided to pool their efforts together to communicate and promote their standpoint as an open example of clear, mature, positive co-operation.
The "Trimillii" association was thus founded during Vinitaly 1995, taking its name from a character out of ancient history who may be of minor importance, but is fascinating all the same: after Noah, Tremelius, referred to by the Latin writer Columella, is without question the first historically-recorded vine-grower and, what is more, with Italic origins.
